We wind past red slopes and green terraces as we head south through the magnificent valleys of Morocco's High Atlas Mountains, stopping along the way for a picnic lunch beside a sparkling river. Visit a movie studio behind the scenes in Ouarzazate, often referred to as the "gateway to the Sahara," to see how the surrounding dunes have been portrayed on screen.
Make your journey past oases of palm trees and jagged peaks today to the desert settlement of Merzouga. Settle into your accommodations at our hotel near the breathtaking Erg Chebbi, an enormous sand dunes sea formed by wind-blown sand. As the sun sets, savor a traditional Amazigh supper and then stretch a blanket over the desert sand to spend the evening stargazing. Stay the night at a resort.
Ride camels over the dunes this morning. Where you will spend a nice night at a camp near bid dunes.
Discover the wild landscape of the Dades Gorge, a colorful and spectacular valley formed by the Dades River. For lunch, stop by a nearby village to try a specialty like real Amazigh pizza! Take a guided tour of the valley and learn about the amazing geology that produced the strange and breathtaking rock formations of the Gorge. This evening, take advantage of some spare time to relax at the hotel.
Pass through the Ounila Valley to arrive at the UNESCO World Heritage site at At Ben Haddou, an ancient fortified town. In a traditional ksar, housing is made of clay and is crowded together behind walls for protection. Observe the verdant oasis that envelops this enormous fort while meandering through the small paths that weave among the old houses. The ramparts are composed of clay brick. Indulge in a delicious dinner and learn how to create a tagine firsthand to whet your appetite.
Cross the highlands to Marrakech, known as the "red city" because of its walls made of red clay, its houses, and its multitude of mosques. After you check into your hotel and take some time to heal, visit a nearby henna business to have your hands adorned with this age-old temporary tattooing method. Next, explore the lively Djemaa el Fna, the main square in Marrakech that was formerly a marketplace. After, enjoy some free time to continue exploring Marrakech.
Get up when the call to prayer echoes throughout the city. Take a guided tour of the medina's meandering, perplexing streets after breakfast. The streets are crowded with colorful stores brimming with carpets, spices, and other trinkets. You could decide to go on your own tours of Marrakech or the Marjorelle Garden for the remainder of the day. Get together in the evening for a farewell dinner in a traditional riad, a spacious residence featuring an opulent inner garden.
Transfer to Marrakech airport depending on your fligh time. That’s the end of our 9 day Morocco Tour. Farewell till next time on another Trip.
